Benjamin Briere’s Arrest

Benjamin Briere of France was arrested by Iranian authorities for flying his drone near the border with Turkmenistan. He was initially charged with photography in an illegal area and posting comments questioning Iranian laws mandating hijab for women as well as using recreational drones in natural parks – however after further investigation corruption earth and alcoholism charges were dropped and instead Cooperation with states hostile to Iran was charged against him without being informed.

Benjamin Briere’s Family

Benjamin Briere’s Sister expressed her delight on May 12, 2023 when her brother was granted bail by Iranian authorities after spending so long in captivity since being arrested in May 2020.

According to Benjamin’s sister, this release from Iranian captivity has long been anticipated by his family and their focus now lies on his recovery following this harrowing experience. Another hostage release included Irish-Frenchman Bernard Phelan; however his sister requested privacy for him during this recovery phase.

Both had been arrested by Iranian authorities but their release confirmed by French President Emmanuel Macron on May 12, 2023 – so far at least.
