Skeletons found in the woods: Four Arrested for Killing RTI Worker in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham District
Police in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh discovered the charred remains of an RTI worker who had been missing for a month, leading them to arrest four individuals – including the village sarpanch – suspected of hiding their crime by dissecting her motorcycle into three pieces and disposing of them in a forest.
Superintendent of Police Lal Ummed Singh confirmed that Vivek Choubey (32), a journalist and RTI activist working for a local newspaper in Chilfi police station area was found charred skeleton was discovered in a forest nearby the Chilfi police station area. Four individuals, including Sarpanch Amit Yadav, villager Nandalal Meravi, Sukhsagar Yadav and Jagadish Dhurve have been detained and are currently being interrogated about their roles in this incident.
On November 16th, relatives reported an incident to police.
Choubey’s relatives had gone to the police on November 16 after she hadn’t returned home since November 12. A case was registered, and initial investigations led the police to Kundapani village under Chilfi police station.
Investigation Team Formed
Chilfi is known to be under Naxal influence and sits near the border between Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. An investigative team was formed, with cash rewards offered for information regarding Choubey. One suspect named Sarpanch Amit Yadav announced similar rewards arousing suspicion among residents in Chilfi and surrounding villages. Responding to a tipoff, police discovered a human skeleton near Kundapani which later confirmed as belonging to Choubey after being identified as being identified.
