This year’s Auto Expo looks set to be special, with multiple car launches taking place at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida starting Wednesday. Electric car manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India, Tata Motors and Kia will unveil at least 75 electric models (including 5 global debuts ). More than 6 lakh people are expected to visit, exceeding attendance figures seen during previous editions in 2020, 2018 and 2016. Both concept and production models at this year’s Auto Expo reflect an increasing global push toward zero emission vehicles.

Introducing the Maruti Suzuki Electric Concept

Maruti Suzuki plans to launch an electric concept SUV designed specifically to take on Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra’s best-selling models Brezza and Grand Vitara respectively in the SUV segment. Maruti Suzuki will also showcase their two most recent SUV models: an all-new Brezza and Grand Vitara which are projected as best sellers against Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra respectively.

Raiwal Hyundai will introduce their all-electric SUV Ioniq 5 into the premium segment at this show, in addition to unique models like its electric sedan Ioniq 6, fuel cell vehicle Nexo, and robot Spot. Kia India will display 10 vehicles including their concept electric SUV EV9 as well as recreational vehicle KA4.

Vinod Aggarwal, president of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), reported that automakers have improved powertrain options since last year’s Auto Expo edition in 2020. Over 70 cars were unveiled, but this time around more EVs will be offered on various fuels such as CNG, LNG, electrified hybrid and hydrogen technology compared with just 70 being shown at that event.

Some automakers such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Skoda-VW and Renault-Nissan have decided not to participate while other new-age start-ups mostly producing only electric cars will perform at this year’s show compared with only 35 participating at that year’s expo.

Top 5 Companies in Two-Wheeler Segment

At this year’s Auto Expo, an emphasis will be placed on ethanol powertrains for vehicles. Hero MotoCorp, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, TVS Motor HMSI Company, Bajaj Auto and Suzuki Motorcycle India all plan to introduce flex fuel options that should enter commercial production as early as 2024.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor will display prototype Flex Fuel WagonR and Corolla Altis vehicles respectively at this year’s show.
