Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district this weekend to review its ground situation after revoking its special status and bifurcating it into two Union Territories. Recent attacks against Hindu families in Rajouri and Jadibal that resulted in nine fatalities have underscored the necessity of his visit.
Amit Shah to Visit Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir to Assess Ground Situation and Meet Victim Families
Shah will visit Rajouri 10 days after a terrorist attack at Dhangari village killed six civilians – two children among them – including six security officials. Additionally, sources indicate that during his trip Shah will meet with victim families as well.
Meeting With the BJP Leadership
Shah met with Jammu BJP leadership this week to address security and administration-related concerns. He informed them that CRPF has deployed an additional 2,000 soldiers in Rajouri Poonch sector as well as starting training Village Defense Committees with latest intelligence regarding terror threats.
Discussion on Key Issues
Shah will use this visit to review and assess the security situation and hold meetings with state police, CRPF, intelligence agencies and defense officials. Drug use as an indirect funding mechanism for terrorist organizations has recently come under close examination and may be discussed during these meetings.
